CeDEM Asia 2012

The inaugural Asian meeting of the International Conference on e-Democracy and Open Government - CeDEM-Asia-2012 - discussed the role of social and mobile media in the future of governance in Asia and elsewhere. The two day conference was held from November 14-15 at the Orchard Parade Hotel in Singapore. The conference was jointly organised by Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (Nanyang Technological University), Centre for E-Government (Danube University Krems), Nam Center for Korean Studies (University of Michigan), AMIC and Institute of Policy Studies (National University of Singapore).
The conference featured panel sessions where researchers from Europe and Asia alike show-cased their findings. Some of the topics covered were:
- E-campaigning and government-to-citizen interaction via social media
- Social media and democratisation in Asia
- Political discourse and information provision through modern ICTs
- ICTs for developing countries and ICTs for the inclusion of fringe groups
