Some of the world’s communication icons are coming to the AMIC 25th Annual Conference on 27-29 September 2017 at Miriam College, Quezon City, Philippines.
Frank La Rue, UNESCO Assistant Director General will give the keynote address. Prior to his UNESCO appointment, Atty. La Rue was UN Rapporteur on Human Rights.
Noted communication practitioners and educators will serve as panelists in the plenary sessions. They are:
Plenary Session 1: AMIC Distinguished Forum – Rethinking Communication in a Resurgent Asia: Florangel Rosario Braid, Filipino constitutionalist and president emeritus of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication; communication theoreticians and educators Wimal Dissanayake, Dhavalasri Shelton A. Gunaratne, John A. Lent and Arun Mahizhnan; and development advocate and former World Bank knowledge management promoter Ronny Adhikarya.
Plenary Session 2: Asian Philosophies, Religions and Communication: Dasho Kinley Dorji, Bhutan former minister and advocate of the concept of gross national happiness; priest and pastoral communication educator Franz-Josef Eilers, SVD; peace advocate and Islam specialist Imtiyaz Yusuf; Su-Kyung Han, specialist on Korean media landscape; Lorna Israel, international studies expert; and Binod C. Agrawal, Indian media development and research expert.
Plenary Session 3: Freedom of Expression in a Post-Truth Era: Lars Bestel, head of the Asia Department of International Media Support, an international NGO; author of several books on media issues and editor Cherian George; Chinese media specialist Peixin Cao; and media lawyer and educator Ang Peng Hwa, former chair of the AMIC Board of Directors and current president of the International Communication Association.
