We started on a high note on Day 0 (literally, with the AMIC Got Talent Show) and ended the conference on Day 3 with much optimism about the future of AMIC.

The participants of the AMIC 25th Annual Conference reached a record high of 604 individuals including 70 foreign participants from 17 countries. This number includes 431 paying participants and 173 guests (from sponsors and AMIC consortium partners). 254 students from 11 schools within and outside the Philippines attended. Our friends and colleagues from host the school, Miriam College, were on their toes and made sure that we felt their warm welcome and overwhelming support.

In addition to the three plenary sessions (with 14 plenary speakers), we had 25 parallel sessions with 136 paper presenters. Only three of the confirmed parallel session presenters were unable to attend.

All paper presenters submitted their approved abstracts and about 80 percent submitted their full papers prior to the event—a significantly high number of submissions compared to previous conferences. Soon to be available on the AMIC website are the conference photos, videos, abstracts, and plenary and parallel session presentations (unless otherwise prohibited by presenters whose papers are pending publication).

One of the highlights is the awarding of the AMIC Asia Communication Awards 2016 and 2017 to Dr. Shelton Gunaratne and Mr. Wijayananda Jayaweera, respectively. Both were present to accept their recognition.

The Board of Directors convened with the following members present: Dr. Crispin C. Maslog (Chairman), Prof. Ang Peng Hwa (Chairman de Honneur), Dr. Binod Agrawal, Dr. Syed Idid Arabi, and Secretary General Ramon Tuazon. Board of Management Chairman and former Secretary General Jose Ma. G. Carlos also attended.

The General Membership Meeting was also convened on 28 September with 34 participants. The SG reported on AMIC’s accomplishments and concerns over the past two years as well as the state of the financial health of the organization.

The Conference received wide publicity – before and after the event.

We cannot help but be excited for greater heights our AMIC Conferences are to have in the coming years. We thank you, our members, for your contribution and support. At the same time, we invite you to take active part in growing AMIC. It is only through our continuous collaboration that we grow together.

Let’s do it again, ONE AMIC.
