In recognizing technological literacy as a major pre-condition for citienzhip in a modern democracy, The Commonwealth Secretariat initiated a programme of training to popularize scientific education in Commonwealth countries. In the context of Asia, the popularization of science and technology takes on added significance. Many Asian countries have deep-rooted cultures and an ancient scientific tradition that has been eroded through apathy, colonization and neglect.
This book is a selection of articles and reports from a meeting organized jointly by the Commonwealth Secretariat and AMIC. It addresses the issues involved in popularizing science and technology, and presents some case studies of good practices in India, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
